Mark Leyden: Becoming an Entrepreneur

Do you wonder if you have what it takes to become an entrepreneur? Are you trying to leave the corporate world? Mark Leyden asked himself the same questions as he left a “stable” job to enhance his entrepreneurial chops. With a lot of effort and time, he was able to succeed.

Mark Leyden, Taxes and Insurance Expert

Mark doesn’t believe that you have to choose between a quality personal life or a successful career; he believes and proves that it is possible to have both. In his time in the corporate world, he always saw things that could help him become a successful entrepreneur—and for that he is thankful. However, he just knew that being in that world wasn’t for him and needed something more exciting. With that motivation, he moved to an industry where you grow if you push yourself to do it.

Here are three amazing lessons from this podcast episode:

1) Corporate Job Experiences

Both David and Mark had corporate jobs before having a successful business of their own. They both consider those jobs to be a blessing because they taught them a lot of what they needed to know to create their company. You will quickly learn that there is no such thing as a stable job; in the corporate world, they can fire you any day. This is not intended to strike fear in you but for you to realize that you are in charge of your destiny.

Another thing you can find in a corporate job is that some things are expected from you, but sometimes they expect you to give all your time and effort to the job. Mark noticed this and now he looks back and realizes that if you put the same time and effort towards your own company, abundance would be overflowing.

2) Taxes 101

Mark works with a lot of financial advisors and part of his job is keeping track of the changes the government sets and how that might affect his clients. Something new that is happening is that he now finds creative ways of explaining this to his clients. Let’s be honest— only people in the industry understand their language and sometimes the experts need to simplify it so others also understand what’s going on. Mark has really enjoyed finding new ways to keep his clients updated and educated.

3) Reading is Knowledge

Mark believes that the moment you quit learning is the moment you quit in general. You never stop learning. Just because you are not in school doesn't mean you are not constantly learning. One of the things most entrepreneurs do is read; an average CEO reads around 60 books per year! The more you read, the more successful you become as a person. In this episode, Mark shares phenomenal book recommendations for entrepreneurs and specifically new entrepreneurs.

You can’t be afraid to fail.
