Greg Greenwood, Confident Leader

Greg had to take important steps to understand that the only way to become your true self is to be brave enough to make decisions and take action. He left an accounting job to become a car dealer in his father's business. He had to fight to gain a place in the company and all of his efforts gave amazing results. He now he runs an automotive dealership in Ohio.

Here are three amazing lessons from this podcast episode:

1) Don’t Let Fear Stop You

Everyone has dreams, but their motivation is weaker than the fear they have of failing— that’s why a lot of dreams never become reality.  People do crazy things to avoid feeling pain and leaving their comfort zone. The fear of failure and the unknown makes people stay in a tiny box that gives them a false sense of stability, but what most people don’t know is that by avoiding pain, you are generating more pain in your life.

Greg sees this in his team; there are a lot of young talented people that believe that if they stay in their comfort zone, they won’t have to worry about failing. In reality, failure is the way to success.

2) Mentors are Essential

Greg started in the automotive industry because his father owned an automotive dealership. He got a job as a salesman and was motivated to prove that he was more than just the son of the owner. He says that he did have one advantage and that was getting a ride from his father every week. Greg noticed all the knowledge his father had about business and the industry so he decided to take advantage and learn all he could from his father. He always looked forward to those moments of opportunity, and that helped him be open to advice and constructive criticism.

3) Facing Adversities

2020 was a difficult year for a lot of people. Changes and unpredictable things happened— if a business wanted to survive and still have profits, they needed to innovate and find ways to be safe. Greg realized that he needed to do things differently when he was obligated to close his dealership for three weeks straight. During those three weeks, Greg and his team decided to find new processes and safety precautions so they could open again as soon as possible. Even though it required difficult decisions and a lot of effort, they were able to open up again and successfully sell the same quantity they were selling before the pandemic.

It is okay to love yourself.
