John Stix, Pioneer and Entrepreneur
John has always had a creative and innovative side. Ever since he was young, he wanted to create solutions to problems. This desire drove him to become a pioneer in telecom services, leading him to found Fibernetics, a telecommunications company that has grown exponentially.
Here are three key elements you will get from John’s experiences:
1) Gain Experience
For as long as we’ve known, humans are destined to make mistakes and have failures. Truly, the only failure one can make is to not take chances and learn from experiences in life. John has had this clear ever since he started trying to run a business or innovate. Every time he failed, he just took notes on what he could do better next time and continued forward. This mindset helped him create the successful business he has today.
The younger you are, the easier it is to take chances and learn from experiences. As you get older, you get more responsibilities like taking care of a family and debts, among other things. But, when you are younger, you have fewer responsibilities and you don’t have to consider as much when creating potential consequences.
2) Everything Changes
Everything changes and this is a sign that something is growing. Opportunities come unexpectedly; don’t be afraid to take one because it is there to teach you a lesson. Sometimes we don’t realize how much we’ve learned from experiences, but when it is time to apply it to real life, you have an arsenal of all the knowledge you’ve gained over the years.
John sold his company and after a short time, he was bored and decided to start a new business. Never be embarrassed to change a decision. If you want to change something, do it!
3) Leadership
Leadership comes with a price: your ego. Many entrepreneurs let their ego control them. If their company is doing well, they feel at the top of the world, but if the company is going through a tough time, they feel their world is falling apart. Don’t let your company's success or failure define your identity. You can create something, but it doesn’t mean that your creation is all you are.
Problems can be caused by external situations, but if there is a culture inside the company that you don’t feel comfortable with, you have to change something because you’ve created that. John believes that leadership creates culture and if you set your culture from day one, you have to know that it will change as you grow. You are setting yourself and your company for success.
