Andres Schabelman: Living Life on Your Own Terms
Is your dream to live a life with freedom? Tune in to discover how Andres lives his nomadic life on his own terms.
Andres Schabelman, Nomad and Entrepreneur
Andres is living his life to its fullest. He went from focusing fully on technology and business to becoming an actor. He has many interests, and following those and learning from them keeps him happy. Andres is a nomad, some of his home bases being Los Angeles, Texas, and even Mexico.
See three elements you can learn from Andres’s life journey:
1) Life Hacking
Andres always finds ways to hack life. He loves to get around the rules. This doesn’t mean not following them, but finding creative ways to make a more unique path towards your goal. After college, Andres got into Harvard Kennedy School. Getting into Harvard is hard but Andres found an easier way to get in; through a summer program.
Following the rules is important because they help keep the freedom that we enjoy as a society, but some man-made rules were created for the masses, not individuals. You have to choose your own journey. Take actions on the things that work for you, and break out of the group mentality that forces things on your life that may not be what’s actually best for you.
2) Don’t Focus on Your Outcome
Everyone has goals and you always hear “Keep your eyes on the prize,” but your focus should be on the journey. Let go of the outcome. Sometimes, you might not achieve it or you might accomplish something even better, but that only occurs if you let it go.
Goals can be a guide towards the right direction but they are meant to be flexible because things are always coming your way. Maybe you want to get from point A to point B, but you’ll end up in point C because you let go of the outcome. Let go of your expectations, and you’ll end up with a better outcome.
3) Humility is important
By being humble, you are showing the ability to allow yourself to be taken to a different place than the one you initially thought you were going to get to. Andres was in charge of a hiring process and he believes that the most important aspect when hiring and working with people is humility. It’s important to approach others as equals, and to recognize the flaws in yourself before judging the flaws of others. Staying humble opens up your life to more wonderful connections. People are drawn to those that are genuine with themselves and others, no matter the circumstance.
